Canal Street Car Project
New Orleanians have waited 40 years and the wait has come to an end. Beginning Sunday, April 18, 2004, streetcars will once again proudly traverse Canal Street from the Mississippi River to the Cemeteries. An added feature of the line is the new access through the Mid-City area via Carrollton Avenue.
We are excited to be able to bring these streetcars to the people of New Orleans and all those who come to visit us, said James Reiss, Chairman of the Regional Transit Authority Board of Commissioners. We promised a first class project and that is what we are going to deliver.
C&S Consultants, Inc., in joint venture with Parsons Brinckerhoff, Inc., provided design engineering services for the:
3 mile segment of the Canal Street Spine between the Cemeteries (City Park Avenue) and Baronne Street
1 mile stretch of the Carrollton Spur line between Canal Street and Beauregard Circle (Esplanade Avenue)
various Riverfront Streetcar line modifications
Service, Inspection, and Storage Facility (SIS) at the RTAs A. Philip Randolph site
Carrollton Barn shop improvements
